Here’s the lick that will allow blues players to take advantage of some heavy metal techniques, such as speed picking. It will be also great for metal players to add some blues flavour to their style. I have recorded this lick to a blues backing track as well as some rock chord progression to prove that blues works with anything. As a matter of fact without blues there will be no metal. I would like to encourage all rock and metal players to study blues as it really helps to make your solos unique. In this video I am using a blues scale based on 3 note per string patterns which is something that Paul Gilbert used to do back in the 80’s.
This lick will work in minor and major blues and it will create some texture in your solos. If you have no idea what I am talking about and you wish to take your blues/rock/metal playing to the next level contact me to book a free intro lesson sing a contact form on the right hand side. Below the video is me and Paul Gilbert who inspired me to study more technical side of guitar.
